All questionsWhat is colorectal surgery?
Colorectal surgery is the specialty that deals with disorders of the colon, rectum and anus. It includes advanced surgical treatment of conditions such as severe piles, anal fistula, fissure and colorectal cancer.
What are the benefits of laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery is done through small "keyhole" incisions using a camera. Compared with open surgery it usually means much less pain, minimal bleeding, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal activities.
When should I consult Dr. Tanvir Ahmed?
Consult him if you have chronic abdominal pain, bleeding from the back passage, painful bowel movements, a swelling in the groin (hernia), gallbladder problems, or if you need assessment of a gastrointestinal, breast or thyroid lump.
What should I bring to my first consultation?
Please bring your medical history, previous prescriptions, ultrasound (USG) reports, endoscopy or colonoscopy results and any recent blood tests. This helps the doctor reach an accurate diagnosis quickly.
What is the difference between piles, anal fissure and fistula?
All three affect the anal area but are different problems. Piles (haemorrhoids) are swollen vascular cushions that usually cause painless bright-red bleeding. An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining that causes sharp pain during and after a bowel movement. An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the anal canal and the skin, usually after an abscess, causing recurrent pus and swelling.
