Medical content review by Dr. Tanvir Ahmed in progress.
A hernia is a bulge where tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall — most often in the groin (inguinal hernia) or around the navel. Hernias do not heal by themselves and can become trapped, so planned repair is usually advised.
Dr. Tanvir Ahmed has researched hernia repair, including a randomised controlled trial comparing the Desarda and Lichtenstein techniques, and chooses the method that best suits each patient.

Frequently asked
What is the difference between Lichtenstein mesh repair and Desarda repair for hernia?
Lichtenstein repair reinforces the weak groin wall with a mesh. Desarda repair is a pure-tissue repair that uses a strip of the patient's own tissue, without mesh. Both are established techniques; the choice depends on the patient's age, tissues and type of hernia.
