Medical content review by Dr. Tanvir Ahmed in progress.
Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery uses a camera and fine instruments passed through 3–4 small cuts of 5–10 mm. Compared with open surgery, it usually means less pain, smaller scars, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal life.
It is the standard treatment for symptomatic gallbladder stones and for most cases of acute appendicitis.

Frequently asked
What is laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and how quickly will I recover?
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy removes the gallbladder through 3–4 small cuts (5–10 mm) using a camera. Most patients walk within hours, go home in 24–48 hours and return to desk work within about a week.
What are the warning signs of acute appendicitis?
Pain often starts around the navel and moves to the lower right abdomen, becoming sharp and constant, with fever, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. This needs urgent surgical assessment to prevent the appendix from bursting.
